Glenoid Fracture (ORIF)

CAUSES

  • Trauma

SYMPTOMS

  • Pain
  • Bruising
  • Deformity
  • Lack of shoulder function

PREOP

  • X-ray
  • CT scan, evaluate fracture pattern and severity

RECOVERY

  • 10 days suture removal
  • 2 weeks sling
  • 4 months physical therapy 2 x per week.
  • Expectation is full range of motion and no pain with return to full activity. Sports by 4 months.

TECHNIQUE

The glenoid is fixed screws designed under x-ray guidance either open or arthroscopically

DAY OF SURGERY

  • Nerve block anesthesia
  • 2 hour surgery
  • 23 hour stay

WHEN TO HAVE SURGERY?

  • Fracture displacement necessitates surgery for shoulder function
  • Glenoid fracture large enough to compromise shoulder stability
  • Glenoid Fracture Before Surgery
